I make cabochons and jewelry purely for my own joy. I absolutely love stones and turning them into unique cabochons. I am amazed by what nature has hidden inside of stones. I seek out the most unusal and beautiful pieces in the Northwest USA. I have two claims, The Coyote Ridge Picture Jasper and the Fantasy Plume Agate. I mine my material only by hand and embrace each new piece as if it could be the last I find. I hope you enjoy them too. After I share some pieces with family I put the rest up for sale. Money is one consideration but also to share with other lovers of beautiful stones. The joy I get from this has no price tag but there are those pesky bills to be paid.
Blue Owyhee Gems is my way of providing beautiful stones from the Northwest. Every cabochon and piece of jewelry is a unique and one of a kind piece. Tillamook Blue Jasper, Fantasy Plume Agate, and McKenzie Opal are very rare to begin with so you will probably never see anyone else wearing a piece of it. I personally collect 90 % of the material I work with. My name is Neal Schornack and I am located in Kuna, Idaho. I love doing custom work but my shop is private. Well almost private. The horses have an adjoining stall and the barn owls live in the lift. Yhe owls raise a cute brood every year and I get to watch them on my spy camera. I will gladly work with clients via e-mail. Feel free to send me questions. Please do not call me as I sleep odd hours
Fanatsy Plume Agate came from a vein of agate near the famed Graveyard Point Plume Agate beds in NE Oregon. Owyhee Opal is not exceptionally rare, but the stable blue pieces are hard to find. There is also a swirling pattern found in the Owyhees that is stable and I will occassionally offer a piece of it.. If I am fortunate enough to find some old stock Owyhee Jasper, etc then I will obtain it and cut it into unique designer cabs so I can offer you something beautiful and rare. I only cut and polish what I consider to be the top ten percent. You can be sure each item is unique and not altered by chemicals or dies.
McKenzie Opal comes off a high out crop on a private ranch in Oregon. The swirling blues and tans make for beautiful stormy sea pictures and wild free forms. The opal is stable but I only get enough to cut a dozen or so cabs each year. Those old lava flows hold tight to this beautiful opal and I only mine by hand.
Coyote Ridge Picture Jasper is located near the Windy Ridge jasper claim and shares many of its best attributes. I tend to cut more of the unusal patterns than landscapes. The swirling blues and banded jasper tend to lend themselves to very unique cabochons. There is also the beautiful golds and wonderful black dendrites in coyote ridge which forces me to cut come cabochons with scenic pictures.
The Graveyard Point Plume Agate is from the original Stewart claim. I was able to obtain a limited amount of what I consider to be some of the best for exotic plumes. The black dendrites, golden marcasite crystals and wild plumes are very unique. I visit with Gene Stewart and his family often and highly recommend Stewarts Gem Shop for any gem stone need you have, especially Idaho Star Garnets.
I do all the cutting and polishing in my shop in Idaho. Every cabochon is a freeform designer piece, no machine cut or pieces from over seas. Looking out my shop window as I cut I can view the Owyhee Mountains and watch the horses, hawks or whatever is wandering by that day. Fantastic inspiration for my cutting.
Willow Creek Jasper; I buy directly from the mine owner, Larry Ridley. His mine is only a short drive from my house. I am constantly amazed at all the different colors and patterns in this jasper.
Gem Black ???? I collect an extremely beautiful black stone along the Idaho/Oregon border. It is a type of lava material. Whether it is Basanite, Gem Silica or another name is more appropriate I do not care. It cuts and polishs wonderfully. Sometimes I even find a piece with red or white running thru it. The color and texture is more like jade than onyx..
PURCHASING: I accept, PAYPAL and certified checks. Other payments are acceptable but will slow down the process while funds clear. All sales are on a first come basis. I will try to contact you quickly. If I am out in the mountains collecting it could be a few days, please be patient.
SHIPPING: I use the US Postal Service. All items will be insured. I will combine items to save you money where possible. There is a $5.00 fee on cabochons to cover shipping and insurance, packaging, handling etc. I will combine items when possible. I will use whatever shipper is cheapest on heavy shipments such as thundereggs.
